License
Trespass and release forms will be required for all hunting on our private land and leases, these will be completed at the lodge, state hunting license is not required. Anyone who has passed a Utah Division of Wildlife approved hunter education course can hunt pheasants in Utah, regardless of their age.
Clothing
The fastest way to spoil a good bird hunt is to wear the wrong clothing. Weather can be very unpredictable, from very cool mornings to warm afternoons. Dress in layers for the most comfortable hunt. A light hunting jacket with a sweater and shirt underneath will keep you warm and allow you to shed layers if the weather warms up. Include in your hunting clothes, a blaze orange hat and or vest, brush pants or chaps, rain gear, sweaters, long sleeve shirts, gloves and shooting glasses. We have hunting clothing and layering pieces available in our Pro-Shop or shop on-line at ORVIS from the link on this page.
Footwear
Bring good waterproof boots. Your most important pieces of gear are good socks and dry comfortable boots.
Shotguns
A fast pointing 12 or 20 gauge is recommended. If you have a single barrel shotgun, an improved cylinder is best. If you are shooting a double barrel improved cylinder / modified is the best choice. We carry a wide variety of 12 and 20 gauge shot shells in the Pro-Shop. We hunt pheasants with No 5s and No 6s.
Where long shots are usual – better use No. 5. On a normal rise over dogs and for all around use, No. 6 is the favorite.
Personal Items
Insect repellent, sun screen, liquor, digital or film camera, prescriptions and toiletries should be included in your packing.
Pets
For the safety of your pets and as a courtesy to our guests, pets are not allowed in the lodge. Guest’s dogs are not to be left unattended in the canyon and no pets are allowed to accompany guests while fishing. We have four outdoor kennels available for hunting dogs.
Alcoholic Beverages
Due to state liquor license restrictions, we do not provide alcoholic beverages. You are welcome to bring your favorite beverage. We have refrigeration available for beer and wine and mixes for liquor. We will gladly serve your wine with dinner. No alcohol may be consumed before or during any hunt.
