20 Years of Fishing and Adventure

photo 4 Each year Woody and his friends arrive on Sunday evening in time for a delicious dinner prepared by our executive chef.  After dinner they relax for the evening with some poker, billiards, and drinks.  The next morning over a big, hearty breakfast our professional fly-fishing guides discuss the fishing options with the group and prepare for a day of great fishing.  With dozens of fishing options within a short drive of Falcon’s Ledge there are always endless fishing options.  The eight lakes on the property provide the opportunity for groups to catch record size trout and stay close to the lodge for a nice lunch and relaxation.  Five streams in the Ashley National Forest just north of the lodge provide the opportunity to catch wild rainbow, brook and cutthroat trout in breathtakingscenery on the days that the group wants to explore the forest and catch beautiful, wild trout.  On days that guests feel like fishing a larger river, the Duchesne River and Strawberry River are just south of the lodge and provide the perfect opportunity to catch large brown and rainbow trout, or guests can choose to float the Green River in drift boats and experience the great fishing and beautiful scenery of this world-famous river. In the fall Falcon’s Ledge guests also have the option of spending the day at the pheasant hunting preserve hunting wild and liberated pheasants on 3,000 acres of pristine pheasant habitat.  With so many amazing fishing and hunting opportunities it is always difficult to decide and many times the group splits up for the day to explore a different river or lake with one of our great guides. photo 1 Woody and his friends often choose to spend the day fishing the lakes around the lodge, catching large trout and relaxing.  Our guides put drift boats on the lakes each morning and spend the day helping Woody and his friends catch large trout.  After a long day of catching big fish everyone returns to the lodge and showers and prepares for a delicious feast served by our executive chef.  After dinner the group settles in for an evening of fun and games.  Some people soak sore arms in the beautiful, relaxing spa, others play poker and billiards, and the rest relax with friends and drink. Woody and his group bring their wives each year with them to enjoy the beauty, relaxation, and solitude of Falcon’s Ledge.  The wives fish, relax, and even do a puzzle or two.  This year Joann Spruance even caught the biggest fish of the trip. photo 3 One of the days this year two members of the group, Tom and Sarah Kurrus, fished all morning from a drift boat with one of Falcon’s Ledge’s great guides.  They caught about a dozen nice rainbows and had a great morning.  In the afternoon they wanted to catch a tiger trout, since they had never caught this species of trout before.  Their guide took them to one of the lakes at Falcon’s Ledge that hold beautiful tiger trout.  After fishing for only about half an hour Sarah hooked into a fish, and after a good fight landed a nice 16 inch tiger trout.  Tom continued to fish hard for another hour before he hooked into his tiger on a Woolly Bugger.  After a short fight he landed his first tiger trout, a nice 15 inch fish. photo   Some years Woody and his friends come back in the fall when the fishing and pheasant hunting season overlap.  From September to November when the weather is cool and the leaves are changing guests can catch large trout one day and hunt hard-flying pheasants over well-trained bird dogs the next.  It is the perfect time of year for those people who love outdoor adventure.  Fall is the maybe the best time of year at Falcon’s Ledge the air is cool and crisp, the autumn colors are beautiful, the pheasant hunting is phenomenal, and the big trout are feeding aggressively. photo 2 After three days of catching big fish, eating great food, having adventures, and enjoying good friends we sadly said goodbye to Woody and his friends until next year.  Each year it is a pleasure to have these great friends come and fish with us at Falcon’s Ledge.
