First Fall Adventure

John hooked up John hooked up[/caption] I was able to fish a new river recently with a good friend. The weather has been changing and the fish seem to be a little more active. The fall colors are here and the mornings are crisp with hoodie, beanie and long sleeve shirt weather nearly here. The fish are well aware of the changing temperatures and are getting aggressive. I’ve heard stories about this place but never had the opportunity to fish until this year. We got to the river and I was surprised at how small it was. The size of the stream was perfect for a 3wt rod. Lots of bushes and overhanging branches made for some challenging casts but we managed to get a few casts into some tight areas(losing a few flies, of course) [caption id="attachment_4150" align="aligncenter" width="580"]Fall brown Fall brown[/caption] I immediately hooked into my first fish of the day and it a was thick 14 inch brown. Pretty colors and very feisty. My second fish was a little bigger and just as beautiful. John was letting me have first shot at all the prime runs and riffles. He’s such a nice guy. 🙂 [caption id="attachment_4144" align="aligncenter" width="580"]John's big bow John’s big bow[/caption] As the day went on the fish started getting bigger. John was fishing above me and hooked into a nice fish. He yelled “I’m going to need the net on this one!”. I ran upstream to help land it. It was a nice 19″ powerful rainbow. This was a small stream so a 19″ fish is definitely a trophy fish for this piece of water. It couldn’t have been a better afternoon of fishing. The weather was perfect, the fish were amazing and the whole experience was unforgettable. Thanks John!!!!!]]>
