Streamer Fishing for Big Trout

See All Orvis Learning Center Fly Fishing Video Lessons Once you select a streamer pattern to fish there are several different techniques for fishing streamers.  In warmer water above about 50 degrees a faster retrieval is typically most effective.  A quick retrieval technique will make the streamer appear to be fleeing and will often trigger a strike.  When water temperatures are colder a little bit slower technique using pauses intermittently in  your retrieve will often trigger a chase from fish that are more lethargic in colder water.  This great video by Orvis gives additional ideas on streamer fishing and techniques.
