July is an amazing month at Falcon’s Ledge. Some of the best Utah river hatches of year come off during the month of July. All month long there are great hatches to fish. Here are a few of our favorite hatches during July that we recommend fishing while you are at Falcon’s Ledge Lodge in Utah.

Most mornings there are pale morning dun hatches on many of the rivers around the lodge. The Strawberry River, Yellowstone Creek, and Rock Creek all have some great pale morning dun hatches in July. A sparkle dun in size 16 or 18 is a great pattern to use during these PMD hatches in July.

The evenings usually have caddis hatches that make evening fishing during the month of July some of the best of the year. Caddis are a common water-born insect in Utah and most rivers in Utah have prolific caddis hatches during the month of July. The Strawberry River, Rock Creek, and Yellowstone Creek all have great evening caddis hatches. A klinkhammer pattern in size 16 and 18 is a great pattern for imitating emerging caddis. Elk hair caddis or Goddard caddis in size 16 or 18 are both great patterns for imitating adult caddis.

During the third week of July the yellow sally stoneflies hatch on many rivers in Utah. These yellow-bodied stoneflies are a great meal for trout and the big trout come out to feed when these stoneflies are hatching. Yellow sally dry flies in size 14 and 16 work great during these hatches the third and fourth week of July. Stimulators in size 14 and 16 with a yellow body also work well during late July on many Utah rivers.

Utah river fishing in July is some of the most exciting fishing of the year. We hope to see you at Falcon’s Ledge this July for some of the best dry fly fishing of the year!
