Fall fishing is hot right now. The fall weather has been very mild around Falcon’s Ledge and has made for some great fishing in September. The mild weather has made the dry fly fishing great and guests have been loving the hopper and ant fishing throughout the month of September. This time of year is one of our favorites. In this blog we will share why September and early October is one of our favorite times of year to be fishing in eastern Utah.
September and early October is less busy than the summer months. Many people have gone back to work and school and the rivers and streams around Falcon’s Ledge are very quiet in September and October. This is a great time of year to be out fishing in eastern Utah and you feel that you have the river to yourself most days this time of year. It is very nice this time of year to get out on the river and not see other fishermen. It is a very peaceful time of year.
The weather in September and early October is beautiful and is some of the most mild weather of the entire year. The afternoon temperatures are typically in the 70s and low 80s and the nighttime temperatures get down to the high 40s and low 50s. The weather this time of year can be cool in the mornings and evening and warm in the afternoon, but if you bring a jacket and hat it is some of the most comfortable weather of the year.
The cool mornings and evenings are about perfect for trout, so the fish are very active this time of year and it can be some of the best fishing of the year. The nighttime temperatures have not killed off the flying insects yet, so the dry fly fishing continues to be good. Hopper and ant patterns work great this time of year. Brown trout, brook trout, and tiger trout love the cooler temperatures of the fall and begin feeding all day long. It is a great time of year to come and catch some really nice trout in eastern Utah.
The fall colors are spectacular during this time of year. From September 20th to October 10th the fall colors are beautiful and the amazing fall colors in the national forest above Falcon’s Ledge provide breathtaking scenery during your fishing trip. It may be the most beautiful time of year in Utah.
We hope to see you this fall at Falcon’s Ledge for some amazing fall fly fishing in Utah!
