The early summer is a special time of year at Falcon’s Ledge Lodge. Both the lakes and the rivers fish very well, and the weather is beautiful. The daytime temperatures are in the 70s and the nights cool down and make for amazing evening and morning fishing. This is one of the best times of year to come out and fish the many world-class trout fisheries around Falcon’s Ledge.
The private trout lakes on the 600-acre Falcon’s Ledge property are amazing trout fisheries and many guests catch a trout of a lifetime fishing these lakes each summer. May and June are some of the best times to fish these trophy trout fisheries in Utah. In May the midge hatch in large numbers and the trout feed heavily on emerging midges. Midge patterns such as zebra midges, disco midges, parachute midges, soft-hackle midges, and blood midges are all highly effective patterns in May and June. The trophy trout lakes at Falcon’s Ledge are full of damselfly larvae. Damselflies get very active in late May and early June and trout feed heavily on the damselfly larvae in May and June. Living damselflies, olive woolly buggers, balanced damsels, and damselfly nymphs are all great fly patterns for catching trophy trout in the early summer. Balanced leeches and woolly buggers in black and white are also great patterns to catch big trout this time of year at Falcon’s Ledge Lodge.
The rivers around Falcon’s Ledge Lodge are also great fishing this time of year. Midges are hatching on all the rivers in eastern Utah, and it is a great time to fish zebra midges, WD-40s, and Griffith’s gnat on the rivers in eastern Utah. In June, the drakes and stoneflies start to hatch. Green drakes hatch in large numbers on the Duchesne and Strawberry Rivers and we love to fish green drake patterns in June for large brown trout. Stoneflies hatch heavily in late June on the Duchesne River and Rock Creek. Late June and early July is one of our favorite times of year to fish many of the rivers around Falcon’s Ledge with large stonefly patterns and caddis dry flies for big trout.
