Carp SUP

[caption id="attachment_4109" align="aligncenter" width="549"] Hooked up on a Utah carp[/caption] I had the opportunity to fish from a SUP for the first time last week. My friend, Tyler, has a couple of Shaboomee inflatable stand up paddle boards that he uses all the time to fish. One of his favorite fish to target is carp. He's got it dialed in and when you made the offer to take me out whenever I wanted I knew I had to make some time. We met up on the lake around 10:30 and got the boards inflated.[caption id="attachment_4119" align="aligncenter" width="551"] Carp puff[/caption]We started out right off the bat and saw signs of some fish. The water we are fishing is only two feet deep at its deepest point. With the bottom being muddy and the water shallow, we were able to see "puffs" where the fish have scurried off. This was a good way...

Fishless August

[caption id="attachment_4099" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Bryan hooks up on a nice cutthroat[/caption] I got a text from Bryan that read " Wanna fish tomorrow? I haven't caught a fish in August!"I immediately replied with "unacceptable! Let's go"[caption id="attachment_4103" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Cutthroat[/caption]I decided to take Bryan to a place that I discovered earlier this summer that has been a fun place to fish. It's a river that has plunge pools, pockets and long deep runs. This stream has a lot of fish that are eager to take a fly. In the past we've caught brook trout, cutthroat, rainbow and grayling. I figured this would be the place for Bryan to catch his first fish in August.[caption id="attachment_4100" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Cutthroat and brook trout[/caption]We got a late start and didn't get to the river until about 3pm. Quite different from our early a.m departures. We figured we could find a late afternoon/evening hatch at...

We love fishing for browns on  rainy days here in Utah.  This video captures a great, rainy day of brown trout fishing....

Video: July in the High Alpine

The south slope of the Uintah Mountains in Falcon's Ledge's backyard contains endless lakes and streams full of cutthroat and brook trout.  The Uintah Mountain range is the highest mountain range in Utah and has hundreds of square miles of wilderness full of high mountain lakes and streams that are home to native cutthroat and wild brook trout.  This short film is a great representation of the gorgeous country and the beautiful wild trout that can be found in the Uintah Mountains....

Video: Night Mouse

Great video from our friend Cortney at Blue Halo.  Epic cutthroat caught on a mouse pattern at night.  It doesn't get much better than this....

The Green River

The Green river is one of the most beautiful and well-known rivers in the united states. Anglers from all over the country flock to the Green because of the great hatches and beautiful location. Falcon's Ledge is located just under two hours away. Most of our clients venture out after spending a few days with us to break up the trip. For most it's their first time fishing this magnificent tailwater.A couple of us from the lodge had the opportunity to head over and fish the Green with SteveO from Trout Creek Flies. He invited us out to fish with him and took him up on his offer. We met him at Trout Creek in the am and decided we were going to do an A-B float. The A section was beautiful and we saw lots of fish. In order to get down to the ramp on time we had...

Fishing in High Water

Most rivers experience high water and the fishing can be very difficult. Areas that are usually accessible are not and it forces you to figure out new tactics to fish your favorite water.I recently visited my favorite run on my local river with a friend. She's new to fishing and wanted a chance at a healthy fish.  The side of the river I normally fish  from was not easy to access because of the high water. There was no way to cross so I had to come up with a way to fish the run without risking our safety.I decided to stay on the near side of the river and position ourselves where we wouldn't spook the fish. This meant staying near the bank and staying out of the water as much as possible. Short casts with lots of weight was crucial in getting the flies down fast enough to...

Video: The Route of the Spring Creek

This beautiful film reminded us of some of the beautiful landscapes and great brown trout in Utah.  The scenery and creeks are very similar to the areas Falcon's Ledge fishes in eastern Utah.  Enjoy!...
