Fall fishing in Utah is starting this week. Utah fall fishing is one of the best kept secrets in the fly-fishing world. Utah has some of the best trout fly fishing in the United States and many of its rivers and streams are quiet and unknown to most of the fly-fishing world. The fall is one of the best times of the year to fish most of these rivers. Here are some of the reasons we love Utah fall fly fishing.
Terrestrial fishing is amazing in the fall in Utah. Hoppers, beetle, and ant patterns work well on most rivers in eastern Utah during the month of September and the first part of October. We look forward all year to throwing big dry flies on Utah rivers in the fall and having beautiful cutthroat, brown, brook, and rainbow trout aggressively eat terrestrials off the surface. We love to sight fish big dry flies to rising trout in spectacular scenery during the months of September and October. Our favorite dry fly patterns for the Utah fall fishing season are PMXs, parachute hoppers, sailor ants, parachute ants, fat Alberts, and stimulators.
The weather and scenery are amazing during the Utah fall fishing season. The weather is great in September and October in Utah. The afternoons are mild and afternoon temperatures are typically between 70 and 80 degrees. The nighttime temperatures are cool and just about perfect for sleeping and relaxing in the hot tub in the late evening. There are occasional rain showers in the fall in Utah, but they pass quickly and typically are gone within an hour. The mountains of Utah are always beautiful, but in late September and early October the fall colors in the Utah mountains are spectacular. The golden colored aspens and bright red oak trees covering the mountain sides are amazing to see while fishing the beautiful Utah rivers in the fall.
The fall fishing in Utah is quiet and peaceful. The peaceful rivers in Utah are even more relaxing and beautiful in the fall months. The peace and solitude are one of the main reasons we love fall fishing in Utah.
We hope to see you this fall at Falcon’s Ledge for some world-class fall fly fishing!
